1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with her Canadian counterpart Chrystia Freeland on November 11 on the sidelines of the APEC Summit, being held in Danang, Vietnam, and exchanged views on the ROK-Canada relations, the North Korean nuclear issue, and cooperation on the global stage.

2. Minister Kang said that she is pleased that close communications between the two Ministers have been continuing since the ROK-Canada Foreign Ministers’ meeting (August 6), held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in August. Minister Freeland said that the relations between the two countries are now stronger than ever.

o The two Ministers agreed to further enhance cooperation at regional and global levels based on the two countries’ shared values.

3. The two Ministers assessed the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and reaffirmed their common understanding that the North Korean nuclear issue needs to be resolved in a peaceful manner through dialogue, along with sanctions and pressure. They also agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation with the international community in pursuing diplomatic efforts to solve the North Korean nuclear problem.
